Wir hatten das Vorrecht Ende Januar sechs Personen aus unserer Gemeinde zu taufen. Das war eine spannende Zeit und es lohnt sich uns über die Bedeutung der Taufe weitere Gedanken zu machen.

Jesus bezieht sich auf seine eigene Taufe in Lukas 12,50 mit diesen Worten: Aber ich muss mich taufen lassen ... In diesem und einem anderen Abschnitt macht Jesus deutlich, dass er sich auf das Kreuz bezieht. Paulus greift dieses Thema in Römer 6,3 auf: Oder wisst ihr nicht, dass wir alle, die wir in Christus Jesus hinein getauft worden sind, in seinen Tod getauft sind? Hier sehen wir, dass wir an der Taufe des Herren, an seinem Kreuzestod, Anteil haben können. Was hat das für Auswirkungen?

An anderer Stelle beschreibt Paulus den Durchzug Moses durch das Rote Meer als Taufe...Sie wurden auch alle auf Mose getauft in der Wolke und im Meer 1.Kor 10,2. Wir lesen über die Geschehnisse auf dem Berg der Verklärung: Und siehe zwei Männer redeten mit ihm, das waren Mose und Elia; die erschienen in Herrlichkeit und redeten von seinem Tod, den er in Jerusalem erfüllen sollte. Lk9,30-31. Interessanter Weise bedeutet das hier benutzte Wort für Tod 'Auszug'! Mose und Jesus besprechen das Kreuz oder Jesu Auszug/ Taufe. Als Mose das Volk aus Ägypten durch das Rote Meer führte, wurden die grausamen ägyptischen Sklaventreiber gerichtet und die Israeliten wurden von ihnen getrennt. Genau so wird die Sünde in unseren Leben durch das Kreuz gerichtet Das alte Leben der Israeliten wurde durch ein neues Leben ersetzt. Ebenso sind wir durch Jesu Tod zu einem neuen Leben auferweckt worden und vereint mit dem Halter des Bundes, im Falle Israels mit Mose, in unserem Fall mit dem Herrn Jesus Christus..

We had the privilege of baptising 6 people from the church at the end of January. This was an exciting time, and it is worth thinking about the wider implications of baptism.

Jesus refers to His own baptism in Luke 12:50 with these words: But I have a baptism to be baptized with... In this and other passages He makes it clear that He is referring to the cross. Paul uses this theme when he says in Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? So we see that we can take part in the Lord's baptism, that is His death on the cross. What are the effects of this?

In another passage Paul describes Moses crossing the Red Sea as a baptism ... all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea 1 Cor 10:2 If we go back to the Mount of Transfiguration we read: And behold, two men talked with [Jesus], who were Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Luke 9:30-31 What is interesting is that that word decease is the word Exodus! Moses and Jesus are discussing the Cross or Jesus' Exodus/Baptism. When Moses lead the people out of Egypt through the Red Sea the cruel Egyptian slave masters were judged and the Israelites were separated from them. Just so Sin is judged and dealt with in our lives by the Cross. The old life the Israelites had lived was replaced by a new life. Just so for us through Jesus' death we are 'raised to newness of life' and finally they were united with the the Covenant Holder; in their case Moses, but in our case the Lord Jesus Christ.

Beim Übergang in das neue Jahr ist es gut uns an Gott und an das was er getan hat zu erinnern.

Inm itten seiner Klage über den schrecklichen, von Sünde hervorgerufenen Zustand Israels, erinnert uns Jeremia an diese wunderbare Charaktereigenschaft Gottes in Kapitel 3, Verse 22-23: denn seine [der Herr] Barmherzigkeit ist nicht zu Ende; sie ist jeden Morgen neu, und deine Treue ist groß! Es gibt jeden Tag etwas wunderbar Neues und Erfrischendes an unserem Gott. Er ist nicht langweilig und es gibt immer etwas, was unsere Seele erfreut. Dennoch wissen wir, dass unser Gott sich nie verändert, sondern er ist ...derselbe gestern und heute und auch in Ewigkeit! (Heb 13:8). Vielleicht könnte man zusammenfassend sagen, dass unser Gott "ewig neu" ist.

In Bezug auf das neue Jahr ist mir der Vers aus 2. Korinther 5,8 in den Sinn gekommen: Darum: Ist jemand in Christus, so ist er eine neue Schöpfung; das Alte ist vergangen; siehe, es ist alles neu geworden! Diese wunderbare Behauptung Paulus besagt, dass Gott ein so großes und weitreichendes Werk in unseren Herzen getan hat, dass alles neu geworden ist. Der Kern unseres Seins ist erneuert worden und eine Quelle des Lebens fließt aus uns heraus, die alle Schwierigkeiten überwindet. In diesem Abschnitt des Jahres ist es gut uns an das zu erinnern, das Gott in uns vollbracht hat. Jedoch wenn einigen von uns bewusst wird, dass vielleicht noch nicht alles neu geworden ist, dann haben wir jetzt die Chance ihn zu suchen, bis er sein Werk in uns getan hat, so dass wir uns auf die Zukunft freuen können, in dem Wissen, dass alles neu geworden ist.

As we go into a New Year it is good to remind ourselves about our God and the things that He has done.

In the midst of his Lamentation over the terrible state that Isreal was in, because of her sin, Jeremiah reminds us of this wonderful characteristic of our God in Chapter 3v22-23: Because [the Lord's] compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. There is something wonderfully new and refreshing about our God every day; there is nothing boring about Him, but there is always something to delight our souls. And yet we also know that our God never changes, but is ... the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb 13:8). Perhaps it could be summed as as our God is "eternally new!"

The other verse that I remembered, is in 2 Corinthians 5v18: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. In this wonderful verse Paul states that God has done such a broad and wonderful work in our hearts, a work that is so extensive that everything has become new. The very core of our being has been renewed and there is a source of life flowing from within us, that overcomes all difficulties. At this time of year it is worth reminding ourselves of the greatness of the work that God has done in us. And if for any, there is an awareness that perhaps all things have not yet become new, we have a chance to seek Him until He has accomplished His work in us, so that we, too, can look forward to the future knowing that all things have become new!

Denn bei Gott ist kein Ding unmöglich. Maria aber sprach: Siehe, ich bin die Magd des Herrn; mir geschehe nach deinem Wort! Und der Engel schied von ihr. Lukas 1:37-38(S2000)

Die Weihnachtsgeschichte in unseren Bibeln, ist die Schnittstelle zwischen dem Alten und dem Neuen Testament. Das Alte Testament endet mit einer Weissagung über das Kommen Johannes des Täufers, der ein Botschafter des fleischgewordenen Herrn Jesus ist. Sowohl Lukas, als auch Matthäus beschreiben Einzelheiten über das Kommen Johannes und das Kommen Jesu. Der Evangelist Johannes gibt uns eine mehr theologische Perspektive, bis zurück zur Ewigkeit. Wir dürfen nicht vergessen, dass wir mit dem Weihnachtsfest eine neubeginnende Phase Gottes (oder Bund) mit den Menschen feiern. Wenn wir uns in den nächsten Wochen den Bericht des ersten Weihnachtsfestes anschauen, wollen wir uns an an die prophezeiten Wunder für sein Volk zu jener Zeit erinnern.

Die oben angeführten Verse sind der Abschluss eines Gespräches zwischen Maria und dem Engel, der ihr die Geburt des Herrn Jesus Christus vorhersagte. Sie sind ein wunderbares Bild der unveränderten Wahrheit in jeder Situation des Lebens. Bei Gott ist kein Ding unmöglich, und wenn er zu uns über irgend etwas spricht, sei es Vergebung, Befreiung, Rettung, Heilung, usw. braucht unsere Antwort nur zu sein: "Mir geschehe nach deinem Wort!" Gott wird das Werk tun, alles was er von uns möchte ist die Zustimmung hierfür! Worüber der Herr auch immer heute zu dir spricht, ordne dich seinem Willen unter und lass ihn sein wunderbares Werk in dir tun!

For with God nothing will be impossible." Then Mary said, "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her. Luke 1:37-38 (NKJV)

In our bibles, the Christmas story is the interface between the old and new testaments. The old testament finishes with a prophecy about the arrival of John the Baptist, who is to herald the coming of the Lord Jesus in the flesh. Luke and Matthew , together, give us details concerning the birth of both John and Jesus. John (the evangelist) gives us a more theological perspective tracing everything back to eternity. We must not forget that Christmas is a celebration of God beginning a new phase (or covenant) of his dealings with mankind. As we look at the record of the first Christmas over the next few weeks, let us remind ourselves of the wonders that were prophesied for His people at this time.

The verses above are the conclusion of the discussion between Mary and the angel, who announced that she would give birth to the Lord Jesus Christ. They are a beautiful picture of a truth that is unchanging in any situation of life. With God nothing is impossible, and if He speaks to us about any matter, whether forgiveness, deliverance, salvation, sanctification, etc we only need to respond, 'let it be to me according to your word''. God does the work, all that He requires of us is our agreement to let Him work! Whatever God is speaking to you about today, surrender to His will and let Him accomplish His wonderful work in you!

...damit wir nicht mehr Unmündige seien, hin- und hergeworfen und umhergetrieben von jedem Wind der Lehre durch das betrügerische Spiel der Menschen, durch die Schlauheit, mit der sie zum Irrtum verführen, 15 sondern, wahrhaftig in der Liebe, heranwachsen in allen Stücken zu ihm hin, der das Haupt ist, der Christus. Eph 4:14-15 (S2000)

Ich habe diesen Monat einen jungen Mann beobachtet, dem eine neue Lehre vorgestellt wurde, und der nach einer kurzen Zeit des Studierens seinen Glauben an die Gottheit Jesu aufgegeben hatte. Es gibt viele laute Stimmen um uns herum, die versuchen uns mit neuen Lehren oder der neuesten Modeerscheinung zu beeindrucken. Es ist wichtig, so in Christus zu reifen, dass wir uns unseres Glaubens sicher sind und unsere Herzen auf der Basis unseres Glaubens ruhen.. Dies bedeutet nicht, dass es unwichtig ist, unser Verständnis durch Bibelstudium zu vertiefen und voneinander zu lernen, sondern es bedeutet, die Grundlagen zu kennen und uns derer gewiss zu sein.

Obwohl die Grundlagen unseres Glaubens kompromisslos sind, gibt es viele andere, nebensächliche Gebiete der Schrift, über die wir ein unterschiedliches Verständnis haben. Diese sollten uns nicht beängstigen, sondern wir sollten sie als Möglichkeit betrachten, unseren eigenen Standpunkt zu überdenken. Es kann sein, dass Gott noch mehr für uns hat, dass wir mehr tun können oder vielleicht können wir ein besseres Verständnis über das, was Christus für uns getan hat, gewinnen. Auch da wo wir nicht übereinstimmen, müssen wir einander in Liebe tragen und einander akzeptieren. Paulus ermutigt uns vor diesen Versen, das letztendliche Ziel, "zur vollkommenen Mannesreife, zum Maß der vollen Größe des Christus."zu gelangen, anzustreben.

November 2007 - English

... that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ. Eph 4 14-15 (NKJV)

I observed this month a young man who, having been introduced to some new idea and after an all too brief period of study, had abandoned his belief in the deity of the Christ. There are all too many siren voices around us that seek to carry us away with new doctrines or the latest fad. It is essential that we grow to a level of maturity in Christ that we are sure of our belief and settled in our hearts on the fundamentals of our faith. Not that we shouldn't be willing to deepen understanding as we study the bible and learn from each other, but that we know and are sure of the basics.

While the fundamentals of what we believe cannot be compromised, there are many other minor areas of scriptural understanding where we may have differences. We should not be frightened by these, but rather use them as an opportunity to re-examine our own understanding. There may be more that God has for us, more that we can be doing or we may be able to gain a better understanding of what Christ has done for us. Even where we disagree, we must always bear with and accept each other in love. We need to remembering that our ultimate goal, as Paul says just before these verses, is that we all come "to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ."
